A 515 metre flyover on 12,000 Road at Korangi No. 5 has been inaugurated in Karachi after completion at a cost of approximately Rs746.6 million, with the project intended to improve movement between Korangi, Landhi, and neighbouring industrial areas, according to reporting dated 30 August 2026. The new elevated route connects Ibrahim Hyderi, Shah Faisal Colony, Landhi, and Korangi, giving motorists a dedicated path between these areas rather than relying solely on existing ground level roads.
Why This Specific Location Matters
Korangi sits in eastern Karachi, bordered by Faisal Cantonment and Shah Faisal Town to the north and Bin Qasim Town and Landhi to the east and south, and functions as one of the busiest and largest industrial areas in the city. The main road through the area, once past the KPT Interchange Flyover and the Jam Sadiq Bridge over the Malir River, carries heavy industrial traffic throughout the day, passing prominent industrial landmarks including major food manufacturing operations and leather processing facilities, alongside a string of well known intersections, Brooks Chowrangi, Shan Chowrangi, Indus Chowrangi, and Dawood Chowrangi among them, before reaching Korangi No. 5 itself.
The Scale of Korangi and Landhi's Industrial Base
Landhi Town includes one of the four largest industrial estates in Karachi, and the wider Korangi and Landhi corridor is also home to the Korangi Creek Industrial Park, a developed and operational Special Economic Zone spanning 250 acres that received its SEZ status in 2015, one of the very first zones in Pakistan to be granted this designation. The park hosts a genuinely diverse mix of small and medium enterprises across pharmaceuticals, textiles, packaged food, confectionery, light engineering, and packaging, with eligible businesses in the zone able to access a ten year income tax holiday and a one time import duty exemption under Pakistan's Special Economic Zones Act, 2012. This concentration of established industrial activity is precisely the traffic base a new flyover at Korangi No. 5 is intended to serve more efficiently.
What Local Officials Said
The flyover's inauguration was carried out by Karachi's Mayor alongside Sindh's Local Government Minister and other provincial representatives, with officials describing the project as intended to ease traffic movement around Korangi No. 5 specifically by offering motorists a dedicated elevated route, and stating the improved connection is also expected to benefit residents and businesses in the surrounding residential and commercial areas by making daily commuting more convenient.
What This Means for Industrial and Commercial Property in the Corridor
Better access to one of Karachi's major industrial belts carries genuine relevance for industrial property, warehousing, and commercial sites throughout the Korangi and Landhi corridor, particularly given how congestion around this specific junction has historically affected daily movement for the area's dense concentration of manufacturing and processing businesses. Surrounding residential areas that depend on the same road network for daily commuting stand to benefit as well, given the flyover's direct connection to Shah Faisal Colony and Ibrahim Hyderi alongside Korangi and Landhi themselves. Businesses and investors evaluating industrial or commercial property in this corridor, including within the Korangi Creek Industrial Park specifically, should treat this completed flyover as a genuine, delivered infrastructure improvement rather than a project still pending completion, a meaningful distinction given how many other infrastructure announcements in Pakistan remain at the planning or construction stage rather than actually finished and open to traffic.
