Meezan Bank has reported approving 6,880 housing finance applications worth about Rs49 billion under the government's Ghar Ho Tu Apna (GHTA) programme. The bank's latest figures show more than 27,800 applications received, seeking about Rs179 billion, and 6,880 financing cases approved. As of September 30, 2026, 1,000 families had received financing totalling Rs7.34 billion. The programme provides subsidised housing finance to support homeownership. The figures represent Meezan Bank's participation and not the nationwide totals for the programme.
Why These Are Bank-Level Figures
The numbers are Meezan Bank's own and cover only its share of the programme. Other banks taking part are not included, so the figures cannot be read as the scheme's national total. The nationwide approval and disbursement picture we have reported comes from the government, in Only 19% of Approved Affordable Housing Finance Reaches Homebuyers and Pakistan Sets Rs700bn Housing Finance Target for 125,000 Homes. The reports do not say how much of the national total is Meezan's, so we have not tried to work out a share.
Why the Gap Between Applications and Approvals Is Wide
Meezan received more than 27,800 applications seeking about Rs179 billion, and approved 6,880 worth about Rs49 billion. That is roughly a quarter of applications by number and a little over a quarter by value (our own calculation from the figures, which are rounded). The reports do not explain why the rest were not approved, and they could be pending, declined or withdrawn, so we do not offer a reason.
Why Approvals and Disbursements Are Very Different Numbers
The most important comparison is between the Rs49 billion approved and the Rs7.34 billion received by 1,000 families as of September 30. The disbursed amount is about 15 percent of the approved amount (our own calculation). The two figures may not be measured on the same date or the same basis, so the percentage is only a rough guide. Even so, it fits the wider pattern in the government's own figures, where far less had been disbursed than approved. The bank-level data shows the same difference between loan approvals and actual money reaching buyers, which determines how quickly financing translates into property purchases and construction activity.
Why Average Loan Size Is Worth Noting
Rs49 billion across 6,880 approvals averages about Rs7.1 million per case, and Rs7.34 billion across 1,000 families averages about Rs7.3 million each (our own calculations). These are averages and not typical loan sizes, and the reports do not give the loan limits or the subsidy terms.
What This Means for Buyers, Developers and Banks
Buyers who have applied should ask their bank where their application stands and which documents are outstanding, since approvals have run well ahead of disbursements. Developers should not treat approvals as received payments. Demand for the scheme looks strong, given the number of applications, but conversion to completed purchases is the figure to watch. The signals to watch are further bank-level disclosures, the nationwide disbursement share and any measures to speed up payment. Programme information is published by the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Finance.
