The Government of Punjab has approved more than 224,000 interest-free housing loan cases under its Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme. Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin gave the figures while reviewing beneficiaries' construction progress, and they were reported on October 23, 2026. These are cumulative programme figures. They do not mean that 224,000 new applications were approved on October 23. Programme announcements are published by the Government of the Punjab.
The reported divisional figures are 26,903 beneficiaries in Rawalpindi, 25,468 in Lahore, 29,658 in Sargodha and 25,402 in Faisalabad. Together these four divisions account for 107,431 beneficiaries (our own calculation), which is less than half of the total. The reports do not give figures for the other divisions, so we cannot say how the rest is divided. The reports also do not say whether "beneficiaries" and "approved cases" are counted the same way.
An approved case means a loan has been sanctioned. It does not mean the money has been paid out in full or that a house has been completed. The minister was reviewing beneficiaries' construction progress, but the reports do not say how many homes are finished, under construction or not yet started. We therefore describe the figures as approvals only.
The reports do not give the total value of the loans, the amount per borrower, the repayment terms or the eligibility conditions. Banks take part in such programmes as lending partners, and the Bank of Punjab is among the institutions that publish information for applicants. We do not state any terms that the reports do not give.
Interest-free financing could support residential construction, particularly among lower-income households, and increase demand for building materials and construction services. The reports do not measure that demand or link the programme to property prices, so we do not claim any specific effect.
Applicants should rely on official programme notices for eligibility, documentation and instalment schedules, and should not pay anyone to speed up an application. Builders and suppliers in the divisions listed may see more small-scale activity if funds are disbursed, but the reports give no schedule. The signals to watch are the total value approved, the number of houses completed, the disbursement pace and the opening of any new application round.
