The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation has provided Rs1.6 billion for the rehabilitation of nine roads, with construction expected to begin by the end of October. The announcement was reported on October 21, 2026. The roads are Khayaban-e-Sir Syed Road, Bokra Road, 5th Road, Rawal Road, Chandni Chowk–Commercial Market Road, Railway Workshop Road, China Market–Gordon College Road, Satellite Town 4th B Road and Band Khana Road. Work will begin after the contract-awarding process is completed. Local government matters are published by the Local Government and Community Development Department, Punjab, and provincial announcements by the Government of the Punjab.
Why Contracts Come First
Construction is expected to begin by the end of October, but only after the contract-awarding process is complete. The reports we have seen do not say whether the contracts have been awarded, who the contractors are or what the completion dates are. We therefore describe the October start as an expectation and not as a commitment.
What the Rs1.6bn Covers
Rs1.6 billion for nine roads averages about Rs178 million per road (our own calculation). The reports do not give a cost for each road or say how long each stretch is, so the average is only a rough guide. They also do not say whether the figure covers all work or only part of it.
Which Areas Are Affected
The roads run through established parts of Rawalpindi, including Satellite Town, the Commercial Market area and the area around Gordon College. The reports do not describe the condition of each road or the type of work planned. We do not say which road will be done first.
Why Road Conditions Matter for Property
Improved road conditions could benefit residential and commercial properties in these neighbourhoods by easing access and travel. That depends on the work being finished and on the quality of the repairs. The reports do not link the project to rents or prices, and we do not claim any effect.
What This Means for Residents, Traders and Commuters
Residents and traders near the nine roads should expect disruption once work begins and watch for diversion notices. The signals to watch are the award of contracts, the start of work, the completion dates for each road and any change in the budget.
