The federal government has announced another cut in petroleum prices, effective October 14, 2026. Under the Petroleum Division's notification, petrol falls by Rs2.71 per litre to Rs392.66, and high-speed diesel falls by just Rs0.03 to Rs396.82. The reports describe the change as part of the government's daily fuel-pricing mechanism and note that it follows a reduction in petrol prices the previous day. Notifications are published by the Petroleum Division.
| Fuel | Previous price | New price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs395.37 per litre | Rs392.66 per litre | −Rs2.71 |
| High-speed diesel | Rs396.85 per litre | Rs396.82 per litre | −Rs0.03 |
In our report on the October 10–12 rates, petrol was Rs398.30 and diesel Rs396.24. The previous prices in this notification are Rs395.37 and Rs396.85, so there has been at least one revision in between that we have not covered. Compared with the October 10 rates, petrol is now Rs5.64 lower and diesel Rs0.58 higher (our own calculations). The change over that period should be checked against the Petroleum Division's notifications.
Petrol fell by Rs2.71, while diesel moved by only three paisas. The reports do not explain the difference, so we do not offer a reason. At Rs392.66, petrol is Rs7.34 below Rs400 per litre (our own calculation), after being within Rs2 of that mark on October 10.
Diesel runs trucks, excavators and site generators, so its price feeds into freight and machinery costs. A cut of three paisas will not change those costs. The wider cost picture includes cement prices rising Rs201 per bag and global oil prices above $104, and we covered earlier diesel increases in Diesel Price Hike and Construction Costs.
Prices that change every day or every few days make fuel costs harder to budget for. The reports do not say how long the new rates apply, so readers should check the notification for the validity period. Contractors on fixed-price work should price fuel with some margin.
Commuters and businesses that depend on petrol may see a small saving. Contractors and transporters, who mostly use diesel, are unlikely to see meaningful relief. Developers should not read the petrol cut as a sign of lower construction costs. The signals to watch are the next fuel notification and the direction of international oil prices. Notifications are published by the Petroleum Division and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
